The job hazard analysis
PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, High-visibility vest
1. Plan the layout
What could go wrong
Fence lines that block emergency access, or leave gaps the public can use
How we control it
Mark the fence line, gates, deliveries, parking, and the meeting point on the site plan. Keep at least one clear route for emergency vehicles.
2. Install posts and panels
What could go wrong
Strains from lifting panels; struck by the post driver; underground services under the posts
How we control it
Check for buried services before you drive posts. Use two people for panels. Keep others clear of the driving area.
3. Hang gates and signs
What could go wrong
Pinched fingers; gates that swing into traffic
How we control it
Fit gates that open inward or clear of the road. Post the site rules, PPE, and emergency contacts at every entrance.
4. Check the finished fence
What could go wrong
Loose panels that blow over; gaps at corners
How we control it
Brace or weigh down panels. Walk the full perimeter and close every gap.
- Check the fence again after high wind and after any delivery that moved panels.
- Agree who holds the gate keys, and write it down.
When to use it
Use it when you open a new site or move the fence line, and review it when the layout changes.
Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.
Use this JHA in Reldro
- It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
- Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
- Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
