Why this matters

Workers near roads are at risk from vehicles, and drivers are surprised by changes.

What to cover

  1. Follow the traffic plan and use the approved signs and devices.
  2. Wear the high-visibility clothing the plan calls for.
  3. Keep a buffer between traffic and the work.
  4. Flaggers: stay alert and keep an escape route.
  5. Face traffic when you can.
  6. Report drivers who enter the zone.

Ask the crew

  • Where does traffic get closest?
  • What's the escape route?
  • Who sets and removes the cones?

One thing to do today

Walk the work zone and fix any gaps in signs or barriers.
