Why this matters

Reversing vehicles and machines cause serious injuries, often to people who didn't know the machine was moving.

What to cover

  1. Walk around the vehicle before you reverse.
  2. Use a spotter when you can't see behind.
  3. Agree signals beforehand.
  4. Stand where the driver can see you and don't stand behind the vehicle.
  5. Stop the move if you lose sight of anyone.
  6. Use backup alarms and cameras, but don't rely on them alone.

Ask the crew

  • Who spots on this site?
  • What signal means stop?
  • Where are the blind spots?

One thing to do today

Agree spotter signals and where the spotter stands.
