    What could go wrong

    Misunderstood signals

    How we control it

Agree hand signals or radio calls before the move. Agree the stop signal.

  2. 2. Choose your position

    What could go wrong

Standing in the path or a blind spot

    How we control it

Stay where the operator can see you and where you have a clear escape route. Never stand between the machine and a fixed object.

  3. 3. Guide the move

    What could go wrong

    Operator losing sight of you

    How we control it

Keep eye contact. Stop the move if you lose sight of the operator, or they lose you.

  4. 4. Finish

    What could go wrong

    Walking into the path afterward

    How we control it

Confirm the machine has stopped before you move.

  • A spotter has one job: watching. Don't do anything else while you spot.

When to use it

Use it whenever a machine reverses, turns in tight spaces, or works near people.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
