Why this matters

A scaffold is safe only if it's built, checked, and used correctly. Changes made by the wrong person can undo that.

What to cover

  1. Check the tag before you climb. Don't use a scaffold without a current inspection tag.
  2. Use the stairs or the ladder made for the scaffold. Don't climb the frame.
  3. Keep guardrails, toe boards, and planks in place.
  4. Don't overload the platform with materials.
  5. Don't move, remove, or change any part. Tell the competent person.
  6. Keep tools and materials from falling by tying them or using a tray.

Ask the crew

  • Who checks the scaffold, and how often?
  • What do you do if a plank looks damaged?
  • What's the load limit for this scaffold?

One thing to do today

Check the tag and the guardrails on every scaffold before the shift starts.

Use this toolbox talk in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
