Why this matters

Electricity can jump to a machine or a person without direct contact. Most contacts involve cranes, lifts, and ladders.

What to cover

  1. Find the lines before you start work and mark a no-go zone.
  2. Ask the utility about voltage and the clearance you need.
  3. Use a spotter whose only job is watching the clearance.
  4. Lower booms before you move.
  5. Don't use metal ladders near lines.
  6. If a machine touches a line, stay inside and call for help, unless there's fire.

Ask the crew

  • Where are the lines on this site?
  • Who spots for the lift?
  • What's the clearance we need?

One thing to do today

Mark the clearance zone under every overhead line.
