Why this matters

Nail gun injuries are common, and many happen from unintended firing and from nails passing through the material.

What to cover

  1. Wear eye and hearing protection.
  2. Check the safety tip before you load nails.
  3. Disconnect the air or battery before you clear a jam or leave the tool.
  4. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire.
  5. Keep your free hand out of the line of fire.
  6. Never point the tool at anyone or use it to horse around.

Ask the crew

  • How does your nailer fire: contact or sequential?
  • Who has had a close call?
  • How do you clear a jam?

One thing to do today

Test each nail gun's safety tip before work starts.
