Why this matters

Rain can weaken trench walls, soften haul roads, and let machines sink or slide.

What to cover

  1. Check excavations again after rain, thaw, or a spill.
  2. Look for cracks, slumping, or water entering the walls.
  3. Pump water out before anyone enters.
  4. Slow down on wet haul roads and slopes.
  5. Lay mats under outriggers and heavy machines.
  6. Stop work if the ground looks unstable.

Ask the crew

  • What have you seen change after rain?
  • Who re-inspects the trench?
  • Where does water collect here?

One thing to do today

Re-inspect each excavation before work restarts after rain.
