The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, High-visibility vest, Hearing protection

  1. 1. Survey the site

    What could go wrong

Hidden services; unstable or contaminated ground

    How we control it

Review plans, locates, and ground reports. Mark exclusion zones.

  2. 2. Set up traffic routes

    What could go wrong

Machines and people in the same space

    How we control it

Separate pedestrians and machines. Use spotters where they must share space.

  3. 3. Run the machines

    What could go wrong

Rollovers on slopes; poor visibility; dust

    How we control it

Stay within slope limits. Keep windows clean. Control dust with water.

  4. 4. Finish and handover

    What could go wrong

Open edges and uneven surfaces left behind

    How we control it

Barricade drop-offs and mark soft ground. Brief the next trade on what's changed.

  • Check the weather. Rain can turn a graded surface into a hazard within hours.

When to use it

Use it at the start of earthworks, and review it when new machines or ground conditions appear.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
