Why this matters

A broken disc or kickback can cause serious cuts and eye injuries in a split second.

What to cover

  1. Use a disc rated for the grinder's speed and the job.
  2. Check the disc for cracks and chips before you mount it.
  3. Never remove the guard.
  4. Wear a face shield over safety glasses, plus gloves and hearing protection.
  5. Hold the grinder with both hands and stand out of the line of the disc.
  6. Wait for the disc to stop before you put the tool down.

Ask the crew

  • Where is the disc rating marked?
  • What's the right way to change a disc?
  • Where do sparks go here?

One thing to do today

Check every grinder for a guard and a matching disc.
