Why this matters

Overhead work puts strain on shoulders and backs, and board handling can cause falls and cuts.

What to cover

  1. Use proper platforms or lifts instead of makeshift supports.
  2. Use carts and two-person lifts for boards.
  3. Wear a respirator and eye protection when you sand and cut.
  4. Wet-sweep or vacuum dust. Don't dry-sweep.
  5. Keep your work area clear of offcuts.
  6. Take breaks and change tasks to rest overhead muscles.

Ask the crew

  • What platform do you use for ceilings?
  • Where does the dust go?
  • Who needs a lift?

One thing to do today

Check the platforms in use and replace any that are improvised.
