Why this matters

Cold can cause numbness, poor grip, and serious illness, and wet clothes make it worse.

What to cover

  1. Dress in layers and keep dry.
  2. Cover hands, head, and feet.
  3. Take breaks in a warm place.
  4. Drink warm drinks and eat regularly.
  5. Know the signs: shivering, numbness, slurred speech, confusion.
  6. Call for help if someone seems very cold or confused.

Ask the crew

  • Where's the warm-up place?
  • What have you seen go wrong in the cold?
  • Who checks on the crew?

One thing to do today

Set up a warm, dry break area and a break schedule.
