Why this matters

Older buildings can contain asbestos and lead. Disturbing them can release dangerous dust.

What to cover

  1. Check the survey before you cut, drill, or break into older materials.
  2. If you find a suspect material, stop work and don't touch it.
  3. Keep others away and tell your supervisor.
  4. Don't sweep or blow dust you think might be hazardous.
  5. Removal is regulated work for trained contractors.
  6. Wash up and change clothes if you think you've been exposed.

Ask the crew

  • What materials might hide asbestos?
  • Who do you tell?
  • Where's the survey?

One thing to do today

Read the hazardous materials survey for today's work area.
