The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots

  1. 1. Stop work

    What could go wrong

Disturbing the material and spreading fibers or dust

    How we control it

Stop at once. Don't touch, sweep, or cut the material.

  2. 2. Isolate the area

    What could go wrong

    Others walking into the area

    How we control it

Keep people out. Tape or barricade it, and post a warning.

  3. 3. Report

    What could go wrong

    Delay in getting help

    How we control it

Tell your supervisor and the safety lead right away. Record where and when you found it.

  4. 4. Wait for testing

    What could go wrong

    Restarting too soon

    How we control it

Don't restart until a competent person has tested and cleared the area. Work with a licensed contractor where the law requires.

  • Removing asbestos, lead, and similar materials is regulated work. Follow the rules where you work.

When to use it

Use it as a plan for what to do when work reveals an unknown material. It isn't a procedure for removing hazardous material.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
