Why this matters

An arc flash can cause severe burns and injury even to people standing some distance away.

What to cover

  1. Only qualified people work on or near energized electrical equipment.
  2. De-energize and lock out whenever you can.
  3. Keep panel covers closed and barriers in place.
  4. Respect the approach boundaries on equipment labels.
  5. Wear the PPE the label or your procedure requires.
  6. Report damaged or missing labels.

Ask the crew

  • Who here is qualified to work on this panel?
  • Where are the labels?
  • What would you do if a panel looked damaged?

One thing to do today

Walk the electrical rooms and check labels and barriers.
