The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Safety boots, High-visibility vest

  1. 1. Plan the work

    What could go wrong

Working in the path of equipment; unclear who is on site

    How we control it

Tell the supervisor where you'll be. Agree how you'll stay clear of moving equipment.

  2. 2. Set up the instrument

    What could go wrong

Tripod on soft or sloping ground; tripping over legs

    How we control it

Set up on firm ground away from traffic. Mark or cone the tripod.

  3. 3. Move around the site

    What could go wrong

Open excavations, edges, and openings; struck by vehicles

    How we control it

Walk the planned route. Keep back from edges and make eye contact with operators.

  4. 4. Mark points and stakes

    What could go wrong

Stakes that stick up; strikes from mallets

    How we control it

Cap or flag stakes. Wear eye protection when you drive them and keep others back.

  • Work in pairs near active equipment or edges when you can.

When to use it

Use it for any survey or layout work, especially near moving equipment or open edges.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
