The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, Respirator or mask

  1. 1. Check the product and the space

    What could go wrong

Fumes in enclosed areas; ignition sources

    How we control it

Read the SDS. Remove ignition sources. Ventilate the area.

  2. 2. Choose PPE

    What could go wrong

    Breathing vapor; skin contact

    How we control it

Use the respirator the SDS says, and make sure it fits. Wear gloves and eye protection.

  3. 3. Apply

    What could go wrong

    Spray in the eyes; slips

    How we control it

Keep the work area clear of others. Use drop cloths that don't slip. Don't eat or drink in the area.

  4. 4. Clean up and dispose

    What could go wrong

    Fire from rags; spills

    How we control it

Store oily rags as your rules say, usually in a closed metal container. Dispose of waste properly.

  • Some rags used with certain oils can heat up and ignite on their own. Follow the label.

When to use it

Use it for any coating that carries a ventilation or respirator warning on its label.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.
