The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, Fall arrest harness

  1. 1. Plan the install

    What could go wrong

    Collapse from poor bracing; wind

    How we control it

Follow the truss maker's bracing plan. Don't set trusses in high wind.

  2. 2. Lift

    What could go wrong

    Dropped or swinging trusses

    How we control it

Use rated rigging and a crane or telehandler. Keep people out from under the load. Use tag lines.

  3. 3. Set and brace

    What could go wrong

Falls from the wall plate; trusses toppling

    How we control it

Use fall protection or a work platform. Fasten and brace each truss before releasing the next.

  4. 4. Install permanent bracing

    What could go wrong

    Working on unbraced trusses

    How we control it

Complete bracing in the order in the plan. Don't walk on trusses that aren't fully braced.

  • Trusses that aren't braced can fall like dominoes. Install bracing as the plan says.

When to use it

Use it before truss work, and review it when span, weather, or lifting method changes.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
