The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, High-visibility vest

  1. 1. Check the load and the gear

    What could go wrong

Using the wrong sling or a damaged one

    How we control it

Find the weight and the centre of gravity. Pick gear rated for it and the angle of the sling. Inspect each item and tag out damaged gear.

  2. 2. Attach the load

    What could go wrong

    Pinched fingers; slipping loads

    How we control it

Use the lifting points. Pad sharp edges. Keep hands clear as the slings tighten.

  3. 3. Lift and move

    What could go wrong

    Swinging or dropped loads

    How we control it

Stay out from under the load. Use tag lines. Walk a clear path.

  4. 4. Set down and release

    What could go wrong

Slings trapped under the load; unstable placement

    How we control it

Land on packers so slings can be removed. Make sure the load is stable before you release it.

  • Never use a sling with a tag you can't read or a rating you can't confirm.

When to use it

Use it for any rigging task, and review it when the load shape or the lifting gear changes.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
