The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Gloves

  1. 1. Make the area safe

    What could go wrong

A second injury to the helper

    How we control it

Check for danger before you step in. Stop machines and isolate energy.

  2. 2. Call for help

    What could go wrong

    Delay in emergency response

    How we control it

Call the emergency number and give the site address and access route. Send someone to meet the ambulance.

  3. 3. Give first aid

    What could go wrong

Doing too much or too little

    How we control it

Use a trained first aider. Follow your training. Don't move someone who may have a spinal injury unless they're in danger.

  4. 4. Record and report

    What could go wrong

    Lost information

    How we control it

Record what happened and who was involved. Report as the law and your policy require. Keep the area undisturbed if serious.

  • Make sure people know where the first aid kit and the nearest trained first aider are.

When to use it

Use it to plan the response before it's needed, and brief new crews on it.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
