The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, Respirator or mask

  1. 1. Store and secure cylinders

    What could go wrong

    Falling or leaking cylinders

    How we control it

Chain cylinders upright. Keep oxygen and fuel gas apart as your rules require. Cap them when not in use.

  2. 2. Inspect the set

    What could go wrong

    Leaks and flashback

    How we control it

Check hoses, regulators, and flashback arrestors. Test for leaks with an approved solution, never a flame.

  3. 3. Light and cut

    What could go wrong

Burns and fire from sparks and slag

    How we control it

Follow the maker's lighting steps. Clear combustibles, wear the right PPE, and keep a fire watch.

  4. 4. Shut down

    What could go wrong

    Gas left on; hot metal

    How we control it

Close the cylinder valves, release the pressure, and coil the hoses. Mark hot metal.

  • Never use oil or grease on oxygen fittings.

When to use it

Use it before every cutting job, and attach it to a hot work permit if your procedure requires one.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
