The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, High-visibility vest

  1. 1. Check the lighting

    What could go wrong

Dark areas hiding hazards; glare in operators' eyes

    How we control it

Light the work area, routes, stairs, and the edges. Aim lights so they don't dazzle.

  2. 2. Make yourself visible

    What could go wrong

Drivers and operators who can't see you

    How we control it

Wear high-visibility clothing with reflective strips. Carry a torch or head light.

  3. 3. Manage fatigue

    What could go wrong

    Tired workers making mistakes

    How we control it

Plan breaks, rotate hard tasks, and check in with each other. Stop if someone is too tired to work safely.

  4. 4. Stay in contact

    What could go wrong

Lone workers with no help close by

    How we control it

Work in pairs or set check-in times. Keep a charged phone or radio.

  • Do the highest-risk tasks while the crew is most alert, if the schedule allows.

When to use it

Use it before any shift that runs in the dark, and review it when the lighting or the task changes.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
