The job hazard analysis
PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, High-visibility vest
1. Plan the lift
What could go wrong
Overloading; poor ground; overhead lines
How we control it
Confirm the load weight, radius, and chart. Check ground conditions and overhead clearance. Write the plan for critical lifts.
2. Set up
What could go wrong
Crane tipping or sinking
How we control it
Use mats under the outriggers. Level the crane. Barricade the swing area.
3. Rig and lift
What could go wrong
Loads falling or swinging; being struck
How we control it
Use a qualified rigger and rated gear. Make a short test lift. Keep everyone out from under the load and the swing.
4. Land and release
What could go wrong
Crushing; unstable loads
How we control it
Lower onto packers. Check the load is stable before you unhook. Use tag lines to control the load.
5. Pack up
What could go wrong
Boom contact or tipping when stowing
How we control it
Retract and stow the boom as the maker says. Remove the key.
- One person should give signals at a time. Agree who it is, and agree a stop signal that anyone can use.
When to use it
Use it for every lift. Complex or critical lifts need a written lift plan from a qualified person.
Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.
Use this JHA in Reldro
- It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
- Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
- Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
