The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, Respirator or mask

  1. 1. Set up materials and scaffold

    What could go wrong

    Strains; overloaded platforms

    How we control it

Place blocks within reach on a stable platform. Stay within the scaffold load rating.

  2. 2. Lay the courses

    What could go wrong

    Falling blocks; mortar burns; cuts

    How we control it

Wear gloves and eye protection. Keep the edge clear. Cut with a wet saw or dust extraction.

  3. 3. Brace the wall

    What could go wrong

Wind collapse of freshly built walls

    How we control it

Brace walls as the engineer or standard advises, especially in wind. Keep people clear of the fall zone.

  4. 4. Clean up

    What could go wrong

    Mortar splashes and dust

    How we control it

Keep areas clear and wet down dust.

  • A freshly built wall hasn't developed strength. Keep people and equipment away from the fall zone until it's braced.

When to use it

Use it for masonry work, and review it when wall height, bracing, or scaffold needs change.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
