The job hazard analysis
PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, Fall arrest harness
1. Protect the edges and openings
What could go wrong
Falls over the parapet or through skylights and hatches
How we control it
Install guardrails, warning lines, or covers before work. Mark and cover every opening.
2. Bring materials up
What could go wrong
Falls from ladders; dropped rolls; overloaded roof
How we control it
Use a hoist or crane. Keep rolls away from edges and spread the load.
3. Lay insulation and membrane
What could go wrong
Strains from heavy rolls; wind catching sheets
How we control it
Handle rolls with two people. Stop work in strong wind. Weigh down loose sheets.
4. Use heat or adhesives
What could go wrong
Burns, fire, and fumes
How we control it
Follow your hot work procedure and keep an extinguisher and a fire watch. Use a respirator if the product label calls for it.
5. Flash and seal edges
What could go wrong
Working close to the edge
How we control it
Stay tied off or behind the guardrail. Keep tools and materials back from the edge.
- A torch on a roof is hot work. Use the hot work checklist and a fire watch.
When to use it
Use it before roofing starts, and when you change materials, such as moving to a torch-applied system.
Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.
Use this JHA in Reldro
- It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
- Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
- Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
