The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, Fall arrest harness

  1. 1. Plan the protection

    What could go wrong

No place to anchor; falls from the edge

    How we control it

Choose the system: guardrails, nets, or personal fall arrest. Plan anchor points before the crew arrives.

  2. 2. Install anchors and lines

    What could go wrong

    Falls while installing the protection

    How we control it

Use a trained person and the maker's instructions. Use a restraint system when you can.

  3. 3. Work at the edge

    What could go wrong

Tripping; being pulled by materials; falls

    How we control it

Stay tied off. Keep materials back from the edge. Control the work with a competent person.

  4. 4. Rescue planning

    What could go wrong

Suspended after a fall with no plan

    How we control it

Have a written rescue plan and equipment ready. Make sure people know it.

  • A worker who falls and hangs in a harness needs rescue within minutes. Plan how before the work starts.

When to use it

Use it before any work at an edge that moves as the building goes up, such as decking or formwork.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
