Why this matters

Pipes and cables aren't always where the drawings say they are.

What to cover

  1. Read the locates and the drawings before you start.
  2. Look for signs of services: valves, covers, patches in the surface.
  3. Hand dig near marked lines.
  4. Support exposed lines so they don't sag or break.
  5. Report any damage, even a small one.
  6. Photograph and record what you find.

Ask the crew

  • What services run under today's work?
  • How do you hand dig safely?
  • Who do you call if you find an unknown line?

One thing to do today

Review the locate marks together before the dig starts.
