Why this matters

Many injuries happen on a flat surface, from a cord, a scrap, a wet patch, or a poorly lit walkway. They are also some of the easiest to prevent.

What to cover

  1. Keep walkways, stairs, and exits clear. Put scrap in the bin or the dumpster as you go.
  2. Run cords up and out of the way, not across walkways.
  3. Clean up or mark spills right away.
  4. Light the route, especially stairs and temporary walkways.
  5. Wear boots with good tread and keep them clean.
  6. Carry only what you can see over and still hold the handrail.

Ask the crew

  • What is the worst trip hazard on this site right now?
  • Who is responsible for clearing the area when your crew finishes?
  • Where do cords cross walkways?

One thing to do today

Clear one blocked walkway and re-route one cord.
