Why this matters

Clutter causes trips, hides hazards, and blocks the way out in an emergency. Ten minutes of tidying a day saves far more than that.

What to cover

  1. Clear exits, stairs, and fire equipment of materials every day.
  2. Return tools and materials to where they belong.
  3. Break down and remove packaging and offcuts as you work.
  4. Stack materials so they can't fall, and keep the height low.
  5. Keep flammables in the right place and in the right container.
  6. Leave your area tidier than you found it.

Ask the crew

  • Where do you put your scrap?
  • Which exit is blocked or partly blocked right now?
  • What would slow us down most in an emergency?

One thing to do today

Walk every exit route and clear anything in the way.
