Why this matters

Air in tanks, pits, and vaults can be short of oxygen or full of gas, with no smell or warning.

What to cover

  1. Don't enter a space unless you've been trained and have a permit where required.
  2. Test the air before entry and as the program says.
  3. Keep an attendant outside at all times.
  4. Have a rescue plan and equipment ready.
  5. Never enter to rescue someone without the right equipment.
  6. Leave at once if you feel unwell or an alarm sounds.

Ask the crew

  • Which spaces on this site are confined?
  • Who's the attendant?
  • What's the rescue plan?

One thing to do today

Identify and mark every confined space on the site.
