Why this matters

Noise, distance, and different languages make it easy to miss a warning or a change.

What to cover

  1. Use agreed hand signals and radio calls for lifts and moving machines.
  2. Repeat important instructions back.
  3. Use plain words and avoid jargon with new people.
  4. Use visual signs where language or noise is a barrier.
  5. Say it out loud when you change a plan.
  6. Make sure everyone hears about changes at the start of the shift.

Ask the crew

  • What signal does everyone here know?
  • When did a message get missed on this job?
  • Who needs this talk in another language?

One thing to do today

Agree one stop signal and one call for a hazard, and check everyone knows them.

Use this toolbox talk in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
