Why this matters
Lifts bring people close to overhead hazards, and a tip-over or crush can happen in seconds.
What to cover
- Only trained, authorized people operate a lift.
- Do the pre-use inspection every shift.
- Wear a harness and tie off on boom lifts if your rules require it.
- Keep the gate closed and stay inside the rails.
- Watch the overhead and keep clear of beams and ceilings.
- Don't drive with the platform raised unless the maker allows it.
Ask the crew
- What do you check first on a lift?
- Where is the nearest overhead hazard?
- What's the lift's rated load?
One thing to do today
Complete the pre-use check together on one lift.
