The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, High-visibility vest

  1. 1. Decide if the task is suitable

    What could go wrong

    Lone work on high-risk tasks

    How we control it

Don't work alone on tasks like confined space entry, live electrical work, or work at height unless your rules allow it.

  2. 2. Set up a check-in

    What could go wrong

No one knows if you're in trouble

    How we control it

Agree a check-in schedule and what happens if you miss one. Tell someone where you are.

  3. 3. Carry communication

    What could go wrong

No signal; no way to call

    How we control it

Carry a charged phone or radio. Know where signal is available.

  4. 4. Work and finish

    What could go wrong

    Forgetting to sign off

    How we control it

Check in at the end and tell the contact you've left.

  • Missing check-ins need a response. Decide who acts, and how fast, before the work starts.

When to use it

Use it before any lone work, and review it when the task or the location changes.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
