The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, Fall arrest harness

  1. 1. Plan the erection

    What could go wrong

    Unstable structure; no anchors

    How we control it

Follow the erection plan and the sequence. Plan the fall protection and anchors.

  2. 2. Hoist the member

    What could go wrong

    Swinging loads; dropped members

    How we control it

Use rated rigging and tag lines. Keep people out from under the load.

  3. 3. Connect and bolt

    What could go wrong

Falls from the beam; dropped bolts and tools

    How we control it

Use a connecting method that includes fall protection where required. Tie off or use a controlled access zone. Secure tools.

  4. 4. Release the load

    What could go wrong

Releasing before the member is stable

    How we control it

Install the minimum bolts before you release the hook. Don't climb on a member that isn't secure.

  • Only trained people should connect steel. Check the standards that apply where you work.

When to use it

Use it for every steel erection stage, and review it when the sequence or crane changes.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
