The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots

  1. 1. Watch the forecast

    What could go wrong

Being caught by a storm without a plan

    How we control it

Agree trigger points for stopping work and who makes the call. Share the plan with the crew.

  2. 2. Secure the site

    What could go wrong

Loose materials, sheeting, and signs blown into people

    How we control it

Tie down or store loose items. Lower or secure crane booms and lifts as the maker advises. Check scaffold sheeting and ties.

  3. 3. Stop work and shelter

    What could go wrong

    Lightning; flying debris; falling objects

    How we control it

Move people to a safe shelter, away from cranes, scaffolds, and trees. Don't wait for a strike nearby to leave.

  4. 4. Check before restarting

    What could go wrong

Damaged structures, power lines, and scaffolds

    How we control it

Walk the site before anyone goes back to work. Keep clear of fallen lines and report them. Inspect scaffolds and excavations again.

  • Write the wind limits for cranes and lifts from the maker's manual into your plan.

When to use it

Use it when a storm or high wind is forecast, and again before the site reopens.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
