The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots, Hearing protection

  1. 1. Find the noisy tasks

    What could go wrong

    Underestimating noise levels

    How we control it

List the tools and areas that are loud. Measure when you aren't sure.

  2. 2. Reduce at the source

    What could go wrong

    Noise from tools and machines

    How we control it

Choose quieter tools, maintain them, and use barriers or enclosures.

  3. 3. Use hearing protection

    What could go wrong

    Poor fit; not worn

    How we control it

Provide the right type and size. Train people to fit them. Check they're worn.

  4. 4. Keep communication safe

    What could go wrong

    Not hearing warnings

    How we control it

Use visual signals and spotters. Make sure alarms can be heard or seen.

  • Hearing damage builds up over time and can't be reversed. Wear protection every time.

When to use it

Use it where noise makes it hard to talk at a normal volume at arm's length.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
