The job hazard analysis

PPE required: Hard hat, Safety glasses, Gloves, Safety boots

  1. 1. Plan the pull

    What could go wrong

    Overloaded pulling gear; unplanned routes

    How we control it

Check the pull tension, the bends, and the fill. Agree signals between the ends.

  2. 2. Set up the equipment

    What could go wrong

    Falls from ladders; equipment tipping

    How we control it

Anchor the puller. Use a platform instead of a ladder for overhead work.

  3. 3. Pull

    What could go wrong

Whipping rope, pinched hands, cable damage

    How we control it

Keep hands clear of rollers and rope. Stand out of the line of the pull. Stop on the signal.

  4. 4. Terminate and tidy

    What could go wrong

    Sharp ends; trailing cable

    How we control it

Cap or protect cut ends. Coil spare cable and remove trip hazards.

  • Keep people out of the line of a pull rope. A failed rope can whip back.

When to use it

Use it for long or heavy pulls, and review it when the route or the cable size changes.

Review it with the crew before the work starts, change anything that doesn't match how you'll do the job, and update it when the method, the equipment, or the site changes.

Use this JHA in Reldro

  • It arrives ready to edit, and your crew uses it on their phone, even without signal.
  • Failed items become corrective actions with an owner and a due date.
  • Every completed one is kept with the site, the date and who did it.
